VIKTOR GOJKOVIC
CONSERVATOR
Viiktor Gojkovic, a sculptor and PhD in restoration, is from Hajdina,
Slovenia where he received his first award for sculpting in primary
school. He attended the Academy of Arts, where he studied sculpture
under Prof. Zdenko Kalin, and proceeded to specialize in restoration
and conservation, which he completed in 1973 as the last student of
Prof. Mirko Šubic. Since then he has been employed by the Regional
Office for Protection of Cultural Heritage in Maribor (ZVKDS OE Maribor).
He is one of the founding members of the art group Grupa Junij, organized
in 1973. The idea for the group’s name came from Mr. Gojkovic,
since all the members where born in June (Harald Draušbaher,
Viktor Gojkovic, Enver Kaljanac and Stane Jagodic). He achieved great
success between 1977 and 1980, during which time he displayed his
work in numerous art exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad. To the Slovenian
public, Mr. Gojkovic is known as the sculptor of many public monuments
and as a top portraitist. He also works in the field of modern art
with an emphasis on structure, responsiveness and bonding of a wide
variety of materials such as marble, aluminium, bronze, iron, plaster,
concrete and wood.
In cooperation with other conservators, he is passionately working
to see that the cultural heritage of Slovenia is not neglected and
that restoration brings back the original glamour. He has received
many awards for his restoration work.
